Let's Eat Restaurant Review: Mahogany Steak House
Love is in the air, unless you are dining with your Valentine at Mahogany Prime Steakhouse. Then it's the fabulous aroma of corn-fed U.S. prime beef-filets, ribeye, cowboy ribeye, New York strip. It's a meat lover's dream.
Mahogany's décor feels intimate-wood, rock, white tablecloths, candlelight, music, and the attentive service will leave you feeling pampered. We enjoy dining where the attire is nicer than jeans as it adds to the romance of the evening. Our server explained how the steaks were prepared and that meat closer to the bone tends to be tastier and more tender.
My husband, Joe, was a willing companion for this dinner; after all, beef was involved. We began by sharing the beef croustade appetizer ($11), with strips of beef tenderloin and a roasted red pepper and red wine béarnaise sauce. The meat was tender with a little kick of heat, and would make a good entree.
Mahogany also offers a changing selection of chicken dishes. The night we were there, they served chicken with a mushroom marsala sauce. They also offered pork, lamb chops, and seafood.
I never order steak, but this is a steakhouse, so I ordered the 8-ounce filet mignon ($29). It was served on a heated plate, as are all the steaks, with a choice of three sauces: béarnaise, hollandaise, or peppercorn (my choice).
The server informed us of their specials, and Joe opted for the bone-in filet special ($49). Inquire about the prices of specials, as servers don't offer this information initially. Joe found the two large pieces of meat to be excellent and he ate every bite.
Mahogany offers a variety of salads-the wedge salad, iceberg lettuce with blue cheese and bacon crumbles, is one of their most popular. Instead of a salad, we chose to share a side dish. Served family style, most of the sides are enough for two. We shared the au gratin potatoes ($7) which were very tasty. A table next to us had a large platter of thick steak fries which also looked good.
Don't hesitate to end such a great meal with a decadent dessert. All I had to hear was crème brulee and I was on board. We shared an order of vanilla bean crème brulee ($8) served with strawberries, raspberries, and blackberries on the side. With its crunchy sugar top over the smooth, creamy base, it was hard for me not to moan after each bite.
Mahogany Prime Steakhouse will make any occasion special. Preferred attire is business casual, and reservations are helpful. Enjoy your dinner!
